Five Hot Drinks

Hello, My Sweet Vibe Tribe,

I just finished a step and sculpt class which is basically jumping around to eighties music on a step for an hour, the class is full of these cute old ladies who are way fitter than me and I really enjoy it. I have been doing more exercise classes to step up my fitness levels and get more toned, and it’s a lot more fun to follow a routine someone else has made compared to always doing your own thing alone, anyhow just a little fitness update.

It’s getting pretty cold here, very excited because my boy got us each a heated blanket and it’s so lovely, my dog snuggles under mine which is pretty cute, I have never had one so it’s been a bit of a revelation for me. I wanted to talk about my favourite drinks that aren’t tea or coffee ( I don’t actually drink coffee) that will comfort, warm and excite you.

For hot drinks, I tend to use almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk, some brands do creamy versions of these milk and I would recommend looking into these for hot drinks.   Big brownie points if you make your own milk.

I’m really excited for the weekend as my local market is having a plant-based night with stalls, music and food.  I will undoubtedly spend too much money there. Let’s get into the actual post as I’ve been going on a bit. * Photos my own or via Pinterest.

Pumpkin Spice Latte 

Pumpkin spice isn’t a huge thing in Australia, but I discovered it after reading a Christmas blog post somewhere and just adore the smell and taste.

  • 1 cup almond milk
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin spice mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 1-2 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger

Heat the milk in a small pot, and gradually stir all the ingredients except for the ginger, stir until hot and well combined. Finish by topping with the ginger, and a sprinkle of extra cinnamon.

Super Creamy Hot chocolate 

This is indulgent, simple and bloody delicious, you need to use a can of coconut cream rather than from a carton, would be perfect for movie date nights.

  • 50g vegan chocolate ( the darker the better)
  • 2 teaspoons good quality cocoa
  • 1/2 can coconut cream
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1- 2 teaspoons cane sugar or agave syrup

Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl over the top of a small pan until smooth, then stir in the cocoa, coconut cream, water, sugar and stir over a low heat until creamy, thick and piping hot. Top with cinnamon, strawberries, or chocolate flakes.

London Fog Latte 

As someone who loves shows set in old world London like Sherlock Holmes, Downton Abbey and Ripper Street, this is my kind of drink!  Its made with vanilla, Earl Grey tea, and milk and is so cool.  This recipe makes a full teapot.

  • 3 teaspoons of Earl Grey tea ( or 3 tea bags)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups vanilla almond or oat milk
  • 3 teaspoons sugar or vanilla sugar

Heat the milk until it begins to steam, but do not boil. Steep the tea in the hot milk for 4 minutes and then stir in your sugar, and vanilla essence into the teapot.  That’s it.

Hot Detox Tonic 

If you have a cold or are watching your weight this is a great drink, this recipe is loosely adapted from the wonderful Deliciously Ella.

  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Few dashes ground turmeric, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 small lemon slice
  • Pure maple syrup, to taste 

Combine everything in a teapot, and stir well, before sweetening with the maple syrup or another sweetener.

White Hot Chocolate 

I actually don’t love white chocolate as its so darn sweet, but I do really enjoy this drink when I need something treaty or need a pick me up after a long day. All these drinks make the kitchen smell homey, and lovely, and this one is no exception.

1 cup cashew milk

1/2 cup raw cashews (soak these if you can)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste

1 teaspoon white hot chocolate powder

Blend all ingredients in a blender, or use a stick blender until combined, then slowly bring the mixture to boil in a small pan until smooth and hot, then serve with extra chopped up cashews on top.
