Three Face Masks

Hello ,

I’m sorry for the lack of blog posts; I’ve had a sick family member who is now on the mend and have been very caught up with that,

Whenever I feel I need pampering or my skin looks a little dull or congested I turn to one of DIY face masks which I have been making since I was about 12, when my Mumma bought me a book on home made remedies,

I love the idea of using the kitchen and garden as an apothecary and wellness centre. Not only do you completely know what you are putting on your body, face and hair but you are also being cruelty-free in the simplest form and saving money

I have created three face masks for different skin types; sensitive, oily and congested and dull,

I always cleanse to prep the skin and finish with a luxurious face oil or moisturiser after rinsing off the mask

* Please note that I am no skin expert or dermatologist these are just the masks that I find beneficial; if you have sensitive skin do a patch test first.

Sensitive Skin Mask

1/4 Avocado

1 tablespoon raw organic cocoa (not chocolate powder)

1 tablespoon raw honey ( try brown sugar or agave syrup for vegans)

This mask is full of soothing ingredients for strung out skin and also smells really good.

Mash the avocado and gradually mix in the cocoa and the honey until a paste forms. Spread the mixture over a clean face and leave for 15 minutes before washing off and finishing with a nourishing moisturiser.

Oily Skin Mask

2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar ( preferably from a health food store)

2 teaspoons clay powder ( I get mine from my local weekly markets)

1 teaspoon natural yoghurt

Apple cider vinegar is a natural acne fighter and clay draws out oil while yoghurt soothes

Mix together the vinegar and the powder until a paste form’s before adding in the yoghurt which should create a smooth silky texture.  Pat on to a clean face using fingertips for 5 to 10 minutes and finish with an oil free or light moisturiser.

Dull Skin Mask

2 teaspoons raw honey

1 teaspoon melted coconut oil (one specifically for skin if possible)

Half a lemon

1 pinch turmeric powder

Lemon brightens the skin whilst honey and coconut hydrate and breathe life into tired skin; turmeric is also a skin brightener

Mix together the juice of half a lemon, turmeric powder, coconut oil and raw honey together until a thin paste forms and apply to a clean face using an old makeup brush or a cotton wool pad.  Leave for ten minutes and finishing with a brightening serum or cream.
