Coveted Fragrances

Ever since I can remember I have adored the idea of smelling lovely; as I small child I used to beg my mum to let me accompany her to David Jones or Myer so that I could spray myself with all different coloured bottles and come out smelling like a melting pot of flowers, vanilla, spices and musk. Although I have cut back on my need to smell like a bowl of potpourri;  I still love visiting Mecca Cosmetica, Aesop , Lush, Myer and a whole heap of other places to stock up on fragrances for myself and loved ones.

Although I have cut back on my need to smell like a bowl of potpourri;  I still love visiting Mecca Cosmetica, Aesop, Lush, Myer and a whole heap of other places to stock up on fragrances for myself and loved ones.

These are the fragrances that I either own or want to own.

Marrakesh Intense Parfum by Aesop – Aesop holds a special place in my heart because their shops always remind me of old-world apothecaries with their brown glass bottles, window displays, and many mirrors. My mother owns this fragrance; it is a spicy, woody, strong perfume reminiscent of grown up hot cross buns spiked with an orange liquor and it always elicits compliments.

Flowerhead Eau De Parfum by Byredo – Whenever I visit Mecca this is the fragrance I can’t help but spray; I personally like it more than the ever popular Gypsy Water. It’s floral without being overpowering and throughout the day it melts into a fresh grassy scent which reminds me of a walk in the botanic gardens with a cup of chai tea.

Un Bois Vanilla by Serge Lutens –  If you love vanilla but don’t want to smell like a lollipop or like a packet of Coles vanilla wafers then this may just be for you. The vanilla notes are sweet but not cloying and are much more smoky, woody and intense than your average vanilla scent. It’s a truly beautiful and long lasting scent.

Five O’ Clock Au Gingembre by Serge Lutens – Inspired by the old world ritual of afternoon tea at an English Manor, this scent is grown up and unique with notes of tobacco, vanilla, and orange blossams.

Imogen Rose Gorilla Perfume by Lush –  This rose scent has elements of amber, musk, basil and bergamot. It has wonderful staying power and reminds me of drinking tea in a garden full of roses. You could give this is a luxurious gift along with a bath bomb or face mask also from Lush.
